How to Travel from Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) to Patras by Public Transport

You have two main public transportation options: Intercity Bus (KTEL) or Suburban Train + Bus.

Option 1: Intercity Bus (Most Direct & Convenient)

Step 1: From the Airport to Kifissos Bus Station

• Take the X93 airport express bus from outside the Arrivals level.
• It takes you directly to Kifissos Bus Station (Athens Central Bus Station).
• Duration: approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic.
• Ticket price: about €5–6.
• The X93 operates 24/7, which is convenient for late-night arrivals.

Step 2: From Kifissos to Patras

• At Kifissos Station, take a bus operated by KTEL Achaia to Patras.
• Buses run approximately every 30 minutes during the day.
• Duration: about 2.5 to 3 hours.
• Ticket price: approximately €20 one way.
• Tickets can be purchased at the station or online.

Total Travel Time:

Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours overall.

✔️ This is the simplest and most comfortable public transport option, especially if you have luggage.

Option 2: Suburban Train + Bus

Step 1: Take the Suburban Railway from the Airport

• Follow signs inside the airport to the suburban railway station.
• The service is operated by Hellenic Train.

Step 2: Travel to Kiato (with a transfer)

• Route:
  • Airport → Acharnes Railway Center
  • Transfer train
  • Continue to Kiato
• Total travel time from Airport to Kiato: about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Step 3: Bus from Kiato to Patras

• Outside Kiato station, a connecting bus (operated in coordination with the railway) continues to Patras.
• Duration: about 1.5 hours.

Total Travel Time:

Also approximately 3.5 to 4 hours.

✔️ This option works well but involves transfers and may be less convenient with heavy luggage.

Practical Tips

• If you arrive very late at night, check departure times for Patras buses in advance.
• The airport bus (X93) runs 24 hours.
• The intercity bus option is generally easier and more straightforward.
• Both options take roughly the same total time.
